Alpski botanični vrt Juliana, Triglav National Park
Facts and practical information
The Alpine Botanical Garden of Juliana in Trenta was founded in 1926 by Albert Bois de Chesna at the foot of Kukla. He planted plants that he brought from the surrounding mountains in the spring of 1929. He was assisted by other experts and botanists and Julius Kugy. They brought the most plants from the Eastern and Western Julian Alps, the Friulian Hills, from the Karst Kosenice and the Pre-alpine world, and some also from the Karavanke and Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
Julian Alpine Botanical Garden lies at 800 m above sea level and covers 2572 m2. It is the oldest alpine botanical garden in Slovenia. In 1943, Albert Bois de Chesna no longer had access to the garden, but paid for it until 1947. After World War II, botanist Angela Piskernik took care of the garden, who made sure that Slovenian botanists under her leadership of the garden were rebuilt and insured it in 1951. In 1962, the garden finally passed under the administration of the Museum of Natural History of Slovenia.
Since 1962 he has been operating under the auspices of the Natural History Museum of Slovenia.
