Monte Picota

La Picota, a two-headed mountain of 240 metres above sea level, is the highest peak of the Sierra de Liencres, a coastal mountain range located in the municipality of Piélagos, Cantabria, Spain. The summit of La Picota is located in the town of Boo de Piélagos, and its slopes also include the towns of Mortera and Liencres, all of them in the Cantabrian municipality of Piélagos. It has a prominence of 186 m and an elevation of 13.10%. It overlooks the Mogro estuary, the estuary of the river Pas, and the natural park of the Liencres dunes.
On its summit there was a defensive tower, the castle of Liencres, which disappeared in the 19th century, as well as several bunkers and machine gun nests from the Civil War. The remains of both types of constructions remain.
