The memorial "To the heroic warrior" was erected in Donetsk in the Leninskiy district on the square in front of the fire brigade No. 2.
The memorial was unveiled on December 14, 2006, two days before the celebration of the Day of Civil Defense Employees.
The monument is a nine-meter-long figure of a Private Soldier on a seven-meter-high stele. The stele depicts theaters, museums, regional administration and other buildings of Donetsk. The soldier protects Donetsk with his bosom, his posture and firm gaze are visible. A capsule with a message to the victims was placed in the base of the monument, which will be opened in 50 years after the opening of the monument.
The author of the monument is sculptor Viktor Piskun with his sons Fedor and Volodymyr. The monument was created by the initiative of the Head Department of the Ministry of Taxes and Levies of Ukraine in the Donetsk region. Construction was carried out at the expense of sponsorship of enterprises and organizations of the region, as well as the divisions of the Head Department of the Tax Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk region.
Initially, the plan was to create a monument to the fireman. But the fire brigade and the civil defense troops were united into the fire brigade service and a collective image of the heroic firefighter was created.
