Facts and practical information
The Gänsehäufel is a forested sand island in the Old Danube in the Vienna district of Donaustadt, which is used as a bathing facility. The island, which covers about 20 hectares, is accessible from the mainland by a bridge that can be walked on as well as used by cars and, occasionally, a public bus line. The name refers to the former "heaps", which are said to have served mainly for goose breeding.
