Constructed in 1884 by Elias David Joseph Ezra in memory of his father, David Joseph Ezra, who was a notable Jewish merchant and philanthropist, the Magen David Synagogue is a remarkable edifice with its striking red-brick exterior and gothic columns. The synagogue's name, which translates to "Shield of David," is a reference to the Star of David, a symbol of Jewish identity.

The synagogue's interior is as impressive as its facade, featuring an ornate ark that houses the Torah scrolls, elaborate chandeliers, and stained glass windows that bathe the space in a kaleidoscope of colors.
