The *Macrovipera lebetinus*, commonly known as the blunt-nosed viper, is a venomous snake found across North Africa, the Middle East, and extending to Kashmir. This snake is also referred to by various names such as the Lebetine viper, Levant viper, and kufi viper, and it comprises five recognized subspecies, with the primary focus being on the main one.
Taxonomists are still debating the classification of this species, and some subspecies might even be elevated to full species status. These subspecies are located in regions including Afghanistan, India, and Turkey. Additionally, there is ongoing discussion regarding whether this viper should belong to the genus *Daboia* instead of *Macrovipera*.
Physically, the blunt-nosed viper is a large snake characterized by a broad, triangular head and rough, keeled dorsal scales. Its coloration can vary, and there are often size differences between males and females. These vipers favor habitats with dense shade under short trees, particularly during hot weather.
