Facts and practical information
Albertine Monastery on Śpiącej Góra or Albertine Monastery on Kalatówki - a monastery and hermitage complex of the male Albertine Order on Kalatówki in Zakopane. It is located within the Tatra Mountains on the so-called Sleepy Mountain on the forested ridge of Szeroki Kalatówki. An access road leads to it starting right next to the Albertine Monastery in Kalatówki. The monastery is surrounded by forest on all sides.
The monastery complex was built in 1912 under the direction of Brother Albert, that is Adam Chmielowski. The land for the construction of the building was donated by Count Władysław Zamoyski. Later the monastery was still many times extended under the leadership of brother Leon, brother Angel and brother Bonawentura. In 1926 a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built. On September 17, 1977, as a result of a fire, the monastery and the chapel were completely burned down. In 1984 the construction of a new monastery was completed.
The monastery is a hermitage of the Albertines. The brothers who work at the shelters for the homeless rest here in silence and seclusion, praying and contemplating. Since 2004, the monastery has also been the site of a two-year novitiate for candidates preparing to make their religious vows.
