Turnia nad Szczotami, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Turnia nad Szczotami - a crag in the High Tatras, located in the ridge departing from the final part of Voloshin and descending to Roztoka Valley.
The ridge with the Turnia nad Szczotami departs from the Voloshin Ridge in the Zagonné Zwornik, the lower peak of the Peak above the Zagonné Żleb. From this connector the Turnia nad Szczotami is separated by the Higher and Lower Saddle. North-eastern slopes of the peak are called Szczoty and in the south-eastern ridge there is Roztocka Turniczka. From the Niżni Siodlo to the Roztoka Valley falls Szeroki Żleb Wołoszyński, and north of the Turni above Szczotami runs Zagonny Żleb, the outlet of which is located in the vicinity of Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza.
Through the Waloszyn massif was carried out in the early twentieth century by the priest Walenty Gadowski route Orla Perć. However, the section from Polana pod Wołoszynem to Krzyżne has been closed for many years, while the entire Wołoszyn massif has been placed under strict protection and excluded from tourist and mountaineering traffic. A branch of Orla Perć, the so-called Niżnia Perć, led to the nearby Niżnie Siodło.
Turnia nad Szczotami is covered with virgin cliff forest, dominated by limber pine. Its top is covered with limber-spruce forest with admixture of larch.
Highland legends mention the treasures of robbers, hidden in the slopes of Szczoty. The name Szczoty is sometimes mistakenly extended to the entire steep slopes of Wołoszyn. It has long been used in the dialect of Podhale. Perhaps the term means steep terrain, while it is not a distorted word szczyty.
