Turnia nad Dziadem, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Turnia nad Dziadem - a peak in the High Tatras, located in the final part of the Voloshin Ridge, separating the Waksmundzka Valley from the Roztoka Valley and the Białka Valley.
Turnia nad Dziadem is the last northeastern rocky hill in the Voloshin Ridge. From the southwest through a narrow pass Karbik borders with Wierch nad Zagonnym Żlebem, while its northwestern ridge descends gently towards the Upper and Lower Kopka and Palenica Białczańska. In the southeastern rib of the peak there is a small rock pipe called Dziadem - hence the name of the crag. Sometimes mistakenly the name Dziad is transferred to the main hill.
To the east of the peak descend towards Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza Zagonny Żleb and Siwarny Żleb, which are streams flowing into Roztoka in the waterfall region. Western slopes of Turnia nad Dziadem descend to the Waksmundzka Równica. The ridge descending to the Upper and Lower Kopka is rocky and grassy in its upper part, below it is covered with dwarf pine, while in the lower parts - with old spruce forest. Its eastern and western slopes are called Popaski and Za Popaski respectively. Usypisty Żleb cuts into the ridge and separates it from the shoulder with the Higher and Lower Rocks and Old Spalenisko. The exit of the rift is located in the area of Polana pod Wołoszynem. Between Usypisty and Siwarny ridge there is another one - Deep Rift.
Through the Waloszyn massif was carried out in the early twentieth century by the priest Walenty Gadowski route Orla Perć. However, the section from Polana pod Wołoszynem to Krzyżne has been closed for many years, while the entire Wołoszyn massif has been placed under strict protection and excluded from tourist and mountaineering traffic. Among rare plants there is Big-headed saussurea - a species found in Poland only in the Tatra Mountains and only in a few localities.
