Waksmundzki Wierch, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Waksmundzki Wierch - peak in the High Tatras, located in the Koszystej Ridge, separating the Waksmundzka Valley from the Pańszczycy Valley. It is one of the northernmost two-thousanders in the Tatra Mountains.
The peak is the first from the south of the three peaks in the ridge of the Koszystá Mountain, descending south toward the Krzyżne Pass. The ridge separates from the ridge of Buczynowe Turni and Voloshin in its vicinity. The corridor is not the pass itself, but a grassy plain located just above it, in the direction of Wołoszyn. From the north Waksmundzki Wierch borders with the highest point of the ridge - Wielka Koszysta. The summit is located about halfway between Krzyżno and Wielka Koszysta.
At the foot of Waksmundzkie Wierch in Pańszczycy valley there is a domed culmination of Wielka Kopka.
First recorded ascent: Ludwik Zejszner on August 3, 1838 with a group of accompanying persons, while measuring altitude with a barometer, in winter: Henryk Bednarski, Józef Lesiecki, Mariusz Zaruski, Stanisław Zdyb on March 4, 1910. Both ascents took place during the ascent of the Wielka Koszysta by the southern ridge from the Krzyżne peak.
In 1932 the whole Koszystá massif was bought from the Uznański family by the State Treasury and in 1936 as a result of efforts of PTT it was placed under strict protection. Until now it is a strictly protected area and no tourist trails lead through it.
