Orla Baszta, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Orla Baszta - a peak located at 2175 m in the long eastern ridge of Świnica in the Polish High Tatras. In this ridge Orla Baszta is located between Orla Przełączka Niżnią and Buczynowy Karb, behind which there are Buczynowe Turnie. Orla Baszta has a characteristic, easily recognizable shape. On the south side its walls descend to the Buczyna Valley, on the north to the Pańszczyca River.
The peak was named by the poet Franciszek Henryk Nowicki around 1901. The name derives from the shape of the crag resembling a ruined tower. In 1903 the priest Walenty Gadowski led the southern slopes of the peak Orla Perć. On the section below Orla Baszta there were 2 fatal accidents until 2004
The first tourist ascents: in summer - Janusz Chmielowski, August 26, 1902, in winter - Alexander Litwinowicz and Mariusz Zaruski, March 14, 1910.
The view from the top of Orla Baszta is interesting, although somewhat limited by the slopes of Kozie Wierch and Buczynowe Turni.
