Facts and practical information
War Cemetery No. 384 - Łagiewniki - an Austrian war cemetery from World War I built by the War Graves Division of the C. and K. Military Commandery in Krakow, located in its district XI Krakow Fortress.
The cemetery is located in the southern part of Krakow in District IX Lagiewniki-Borek Fałęcki, next to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki.
Since 1889 there was a monastery of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in the village Łagiewniki near Krakow. During World War I in the monastery's farm buildings the Austro-Hungarian army organized a military epidemiological hospital, which operated from August 1914 to December 1918. About 200 meters south-east of the monastery a cemetery was created where soldiers who died in the hospital were buried.
The necropolis holds the ashes of 266 soldiers of fifteen different nationalities. The cemetery was designed by Hans Mayr, but little of the original design remains, except for the entrance gate. The grave fields have been platted, the small memorial is contemporary, as is the cross with a canopy, but made according to Mayr's design. In 2015, reconstruction of the cemetery began, aiming for the original design.
