Rabsztyn / Rabštín, Pieniny National Park
Facts and practical information
Rabsztyn - a peak in small Pieniny. It is the culmination of a short branch departing under Wysokie Wierch from the ridge of Little Pieniny. It rises straight ahead, south of her, above the Valley of the Leśnickie Potok. The Polish-Slovak border runs through it.
This is a clearly distinguished, forest-rocky peak built of limestone rocks. From the west, it ends with a steep, abolitionist rock wall about 50 m high. Some, including Maria Konopnicka, they thought that the castle once stood at its top. However, this is not true. The peak was visited for a long time, he painted it and described, among others Maciej Bogusz Stęczyński. In 1860, it was written: "Even the fair sex playing in Szczawnicki's baths does not spare a pedestrian effort in the company of a highlander guide, experienceing complete satisfaction." There were stories about the alleged dungeons connecting him with the Jarmuta and about the aditers existing in it. According to unconfirmed information, until 1914 there was a nest of the last in Pieniny, very rare in the Polish bird species - a fawn vulture.
The name of this summit in the Rabenstein version, Rabstin Versus Tsawnitz and others already appears in the writings of the famous brother Cyprian from the Red Monastery in Slovakia, who collected herbs here. There is a rare in Poland and a protected plant - European bed bug. From the north, Polish side under the top there are large clearing, where the cultural grazing of sheep is conducted, oscypki are sold in the shepherd.
The tourist trail does not run through the summit, but you can easily enter it from the southeast. The tourist trail leads with glades between Rabsztyn and the hill called Huziawa. From the trail good views of three crowns, Tatra Mountains, Beskid Sądecki. About 500 m east of Rabsztyn, in the same ridge of small Pieniny, between Rabsztyn and Wysokie Wierch there was formerly the tourist border crossing of Szlachtowa - Wielki Lipnik.
