Facts and practical information
Urbanowe Turnie - a group of five outstanding turns located in the side ridge of the High Tatras departing from small Gerlach to the southwest, in the Slovak Tatras. They are located between little Gerlach, separated from him with a switch under Mały Gerlach, and Urbanowa Czub, separated by Urbanowa Szczerbina. Urban turns do not have separate names, they are marked with numbers from and to V. The highest of them, unmisty like the rest, is Urbanowa Turnia V.
Objects in the ridge of Urbanów Turni in order from the south: Urbanowa Turnia I, Strajna Urbanowa Bench, Urbanowa Turnia II, indirect Urbanowa Bench, Urbanów Turnia III, Urbanowy Zadná Urbanova Lávka, Urbanova Turnia IV, Urbanowa Pass, Urbanowa Turnia V.
None of the facilities lead marked tourist routes, they are only available to mountaineers.
Urban Turnie has long been known to hunters who hunted in this area. They bypassed the tops, they only crossed the ridge. The first guides went with clients on Gerlach through the ridge of these Turnia.
The name of Urban Turnia, as well as other nearby objects, was given in honor of Martin Spitzkopf-Urban. It was a hunter's conspiracy, a miller from the village of Stara Leśna, and then also a guide. In 1834 he made the first entrance to the main top of Gerlach with Johann Still and his companions.
Wincenty Birkenmajer, Jan Kazimierz Dorawski and Jan Alfred Szczepański made the first tourist entrance to all the vertices of Urban Turnia.
