Torre de Cabrahigo
Facts and practical information
The tower of Cabrahigo, also called the Condestable and El Torrín, is a medieval Cantabrian tower located in the district of Gracedo, in Isla, being one of the three medieval towers that this town has. Probably built in the 14th or 15th century, we know from a 17th century document that it first belonged to the Velarde family, one of whose members was named Constable of Castile in 1473, a title perpetuated by inheritance, then to a Herrera and finally to the Isla family.
It is located on a hill, free-standing. It is built in masonry stone with ashlar corners and openings. It has a rectangular plan; two of its sides are 11 meters long, while the other two are 9 meters long. It has four floors whose total height is 12 m, which are topped with battlements. It has a great lack of openings, one of them opened after the pacification of the territory during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs.
