Construcción para un encuentro, Oviedo

The urban sculpture known as Construction for an Encounter, located at one end of the Paseo de La Losa de Renfe, in the vicinity of Independencia Street, in the city of Oviedo, Principality of Asturias, Spain, is one of more than a hundred that adorn the streets of the aforementioned Spanish city.

The urban landscape of this city is adorned by sculptural works, generally commemorative monuments dedicated to important people at first, and more purely artistic since the late twentieth century.

The sculpture, made of corten steel, is the work of Mayte Alonso, and is dated in 2008. This sculpture was awarded in 2007 in the first edition of the International Sacejo Sculpture Prize awarded by the company Sacejo Construcciones y Promociones This company donated the sculpture to the city of Oviedo, with the intention of paying tribute to the construction professionals.

It is a singular work composed of several intertwined arches of Corten steel with six legs on which to rest, which rises in terms of pains from the ground, on a platform, made of white limestone, like a pavilion, with its shadow imprinted on the ground, carved in black marble. The pedestal on which the sculpture stands has inscriptions on all its sides: "CONSTRUCTION FOR A MEETING" - AUTHOR: MAYTE ALONSO", "THEY FOUNDED THE EARTH AND MADE ROADS, THEY LAID ROOTS AND IN THEM FOUND ILLUSIONS, CREATIVITY, EFFORT AND. LIFE", "TO THE CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS" and "Erected by the initiative and sponsorship of SACEJO and ceded to the city of OVIEDO, when its mayor was Mr. GABINO DE LORENZO FERRERA, May 2008".
