March Music Days

The March Music Days is a vibrant annual festival that illuminates the city of Rousse, Bulgaria, for two weeks each March. Established in 1961, this event has become a quintessential pillar of Bulgarian-German cultural exchange, organized by the Municipality of Rousse. Over the years, it has evolved into a magnet for world-class musicians from around the globe.

The festival's success can be attributed, in part, to its robust partnerships with esteemed organizations such as the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, the Union of Bulgarian Composers, Bulgarian National Radio, and Bulgarian National Television. It has also fostered collaborations with international institutions like the British Council and the Goethe Institute.

A standout moment in the festival's history occurred in 1965 when the legendary composer Dmitri Shostakovich attended the premiere of his opera "Katerina Ismailova" staged by the Rousse State Opera. Each year, the festival showcases thrilling premieres and compositions crafted specifically for the event, making it an essential destination for music enthusiasts.
