Freiherr-vom-Stein-Turm, Hagen
Facts and practical information
The Hagen Freiherr-vom-Stein Tower in memory of Heinrich Friedrich Karl Freiherr vom Stein is located on the Kaisberg in Hagen-Vorhalle.
On the initiative of Friedrich Harkort, a wooden tower was initially erected on October 19, 1856, to encourage hikers to make donations.
The Westphalian Committee for the Erection of a Monument to Baron vom Stein received enough donations within these years to finally be able to inaugurate the stone tower designed by architect Friedrich Schmidt from Haspe in the Neo-Renaissance style in October 1869.
The inscription reads: The cornerstone of good. The cornerstone of evil. The German people's gemstone. The grateful bourgeoisie to the memory of the Imperial Baron Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein 1869.
No longer preserved are the Hall of Fame and a restaurant next to the tower.
In 2010, the tower was renovated and since autumn 2017 it is possible to enter again.
In March 2021, the access door to the tower is welded shut.
