The church in the forest-a historic, neo-Gothic Evangelical Church, located in the Baltic resort of Heringsdorf on the island of Uznam in Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The seat of the Heringsdorf-Bansin parish.
The temple was designed by the royal court architect Ludwig Persius, associated with the school of Karl Friedrich Schinkl and built in 1848. The building was built of red brick. It has a tower over 30 meters high, covered with a pointed helmet and a characteristic, open arcaded part in front of the entrance, containing wooden, stylish benches. This part comes from 1914. The Berlin painter Ottokar Schmieder was responsible for changing the painting decor in the same year. In 1969 the original interior design from 1848 was restored.
Equipment from 1851 deserves attention, renovated in 1914 and 1956, produced at the Kaltschmidt company in Szczecin. The bell comes from 1990. Stained glass was created by the Szczecin studio of Dr. Badstübner.
The church is located near the center of Heringsdorf, but in the forest, on a high hill, which gives the impression of mountain wildness.
