Facts and practical information

The Torgau Closed Youth Shelter was a disciplinary institution in the system of special youth welfare homes in the GDR. It was directly subordinate to the Ministry of National Education. The directors of the institution in Torgau were Günther Lehmann from 1964 to 1968 and Horst Kretzschmar from 1968 to 1989.

According to the order of April 22, 1965, inmates of Jugendwerkhöfen and special children's homes between the ages of 14 and 20 who "intentionally seriously and repeatedly violate" the home rules were placed in the closed Jugendwerkhof.
