The Frauenberg Chapel is located on the 500 meter high Frauenberg above Eichstätt.
The precursor of the chapel is considered to be the statue of the Madonna erected in 1720 by Prince-Bishop Johann Anton I Knebel von Katzenelnbogen. On October 28, 1723, the statue was benedicated and initially protected from the weather only by a wooden roof and board walls. Under Prince-Bishop Johann Anton II von Freyberg, the present chapel building was erected in the period 1738/1739 and consecrated in 1751.
