The Alteburg Tower on the mountain Alteburg near Arnstadt in the Ilm district in Thuringia is an Emperor Wilhelm Tower designed according to the plans of the Berlin architect Hugo Hartung. The foundation stone was laid on March 22, 1897, the centenary of the birth of Emperor Wilhelm I.
It took almost ten years for the Alteburg-Thurm-Bauverein under its board of directors to collect the required 21,500 marks. Therefore, construction could not begin until the spring of 1902. The inauguration of the tower took place on August 9, 1902; with words of thanks to the master craftsmen and journeymen involved, Mayor Bielfeld took the tower into the care of the city.
The height of the tower is 20 meters up to the top gallery, and 28 meters to the top. Above the entrance hall there is a memorial plaque with the dedication inscription: Busts of Emperor Wilhelm I Bismarck and Moltke were placed in the hall, in addition, memorial plaques with the names of Arnstadt's war participants were placed.
