Bahnhofsplatz, Bremen
Facts and practical information
The Bahnhofsplatz in Bremen is located in front of the main station in the Bahnhofsvorstadt in the Mitte district. The Bahnhofsplatz is bordered to the north by the main station from 1889, to the west by the Übersee-Museum from 1896, to the south by hotels and commercial buildings as well as a larger building gap and to the east by the former post office Bremen 5.
The square is divided into three areas: To the west, a landscaped forecourt in front of the Übersee-Museum, in the middle the main forecourt and to the east the central streetcar transfer station. The forecourt in front of the Übersee-Museum was given the name Platz der Deutschen Einheit in October 2010. A piece of the Berlin Wall was therefore placed here as a memorial.
It leads from Bahnhofsplatz to the west along the street Beim Handelmuseum, to the south is Breitenweg with its elevated road, to the south is Bahnhofstraße leading into the old town, to the southeast is tangent to Herdentorsteinweg with music clubs and discos, and to the east runs the street An der Weide. The Tivoli high-rise and the Siemens high-rise, both built in the early 1960s, are visible to the south/east.
