The Dern'sche Gelände in Wiesbaden is an inner-city open space, the design of which was the subject of more than a hundred years of debate. The square is located on the south side of the New Town Hall and the Market Church. Schlossplatz is just a few meters away beyond the town hall. Dern's site is bordered by Friedrichstrasse to the south, De-Laspée-Strasse to the east and Marktstrasse to the west. To the north, in addition to the New Town Hall and the Market Church, it borders the historic New Market Square with its Market Column and the Market Cellar below, the vaults of which now house the City Museum after a long period of vacancy.
