The Hiroshima Grove in Hanover was created in 1987 on the grounds of the former Alte Bult racecourse on the Eilenriede in the Bult district of Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony. It was created within the framework of the city partnership between Hanover and Hiroshima. The grove contains a memorial with 110 cherry trees in memory of the 110,000 Japanese who died in Hiroshima during the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The Hiroshima Grove hosts an annual celebration of the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival in addition to events commemorating August 6.
