The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Mary is one of the five inner-city churches in Lemgo. Since 1306 it was the convent church of Dominican nuns. The Lippische Damenstift St. Marien in Lemgo, which is under the supervision of the Landesverband Lippe, still exists today. The St. Marien convent was united with the Cappel convent near Lippstadt by state law in 1971.
