Neue Residenz, Halle
Facts and practical information
New Residence is the name given from 1644 to the four-winged building complex in the city of Halle an der Saale, built in 1531 as the New Gebew. Built by Cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg, this imposing structure is the result of the early import of Italian Renaissance ideas and motifs into central and northern Germany and is one of the most important early Renaissance buildings in Germany. It is an unfortified building complex with the character of a residence and with a former close connection to an elaborate garden beyond the city wall.
