Facts and practical information

Nordhausen Cathedral is located in the district town of Nordhausen in the north of the German state of Thuringia. Besides the Erfurt Cathedral, it is the only church in the Erfurt diocese that officially bears the designation of cathedral. Nordhausen Cathedral was never the cathedral of an episcopal see, but a collegiate church until secularization. It received the title Zum Heiligen Kreuz from the relic of the cross kept there, a splinter of the cross of Jesus Christ. Since the Reformation, the cathedral has been the only Catholic church in the town of Nordhausen.
