The Goldbacher Stollen was driven into the molasse rock formation between Goldbach and Überlingen on the northern shore of Lake Überlingen between June 1944 and April 1945 by prisoners of the Überlingen-Aufkirch subcamp in forced labor and was intended for the underground relocation of armaments factories important to the war effort from Friedrichshafen, which was located about 35 km southeast on the upper shore of the lake.
