The Electoral Castle, also called the Old Castle, is a high medieval castle in Boppard in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, and was part of the medieval city fortifications of Boppard. It was a lowland and moated castle. After the pledge of Boppard to the Electorate of Trier, it passed into the possession of Balduin of Luxembourg. The castle is also called Balduinsburg after him. Originally, historians assumed that it was Balduin of Luxembourg who started building the castle. Until the 17th century, the castle was expanded by the electors of Trier into a four-winged complex.
