Tiefe See in Potsdam is located east of the city center between the Berlin suburbs to the north and west and Babelsberg Park to the south and east. It is flowed through by the Havel River and is thus part of the federal waterway Potsdamer Havel with waterway class IV, a branch of the Lower Havel Waterway, for which the Waterways and Shipping Authority Spree-Havel is responsible.
On the western shore of the lake is the newly built cultural and commercial site Schiffbauergasse with the Hans Otto Theater.
