Facts and practical information

Husum Castle - so called because it was located outside the city limits when it was built - is located in Husum in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein. It was originally a secondary residence of the ducal house of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf and served as an occasional residence of the Danish royal family in the 18th and 19th centuries. Already during this time, the now "royal castle" accommodated the district administration, which extended to almost the entire house after 1864 and remained here until the 20th century.

The castle outside Husum is the only preserved castle building on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Today it serves as a castle museum and a cultural center, is open to the public and can be visited. The castle park is a nationally known attraction during the annual crocus blossom.
