Hermannstein Castle is located on the Schwarzenberg as a hilltop castle above the present-day Wetzlar district of Hermannstein in central Hesse.

The upper castle of Hermannstein Castle was built towards the end of the 14th century to protect the High Road and the Hessian border above the Lahn Valley. Its shape is based on French donjons. The lower castle was built in the 15th century.
