Maria im Sand is a pilgrimage church in the town of Dettelbach in the district of Kitzingen. The pilgrimage tradition at the site dates back to the beginning of the 16th century and initially had a miraculous wayside shrine as its goal. In the 17th century, the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn had the present church built and promoted the pilgrimage, which is still the most important in the diocese of Würzburg.
