St. Mary's Church, Hof

St. Mary's or Marienkirche is the Catholic city church in the old town of the independent city of Hof. Built in 1864, it is the main Catholic church of High Franconia and is located in the northeasternmost deanery of the Archdiocese of Bamberg, in the Bavarian Vogtland. In the immediate vicinity runs the border with Thuringia, Saxony and the Czech Republic. After the opening of the border in November 1989, cultural ties dating back to the Middle Ages were re-established with the Catholic partner parishes in Plauen and Weida.

St. Mary's Church and its closed neo-Gothic inventory, including the romantic mechanical cone chest organ, are listed monuments. Along with St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin, St. Mary's is a memorial to the blessed cathedral provost and martyr of National Socialism, Bernhard Lichtenberg. The church was built on the site of a pilgrims' hospice on the Way of St. James. As one of the church music locations in the archdiocese of Bamberg, it is the venue for numerous concerts and premieres of new sacred music.

St. Mary's Church belongs to the deanery of Hof and the pastoral area of Hofer Land. It is part of the parish Bernhard Lichtenberg Hof, which was founded in 2017. As an open church, it is freely accessible daily between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
