Naturschutzgebiet Altes Moor, Seevetal
Facts and practical information
The Old Moor is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Seevetal in the district of Harburg.
The former nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 148 was about 28 hectares in size. It is surrounded to the north, east and south by the landscape protection area "Landscape parts along the Reichsautobahn Hamburg-Hannover from km 11 to km 18". The area was under nature protection since January 2, 1987. On July 1, 2019, it was absorbed into the newly designated "Seeve" nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Harburg.
The area, which lies northwest of the Maschen-Horst district, is almost completely surrounded by roads. To the east and south, it is bordered by the A 1 motorway at the Horst triangle, which has built over part of the moor area, and to the north by other public roads. Only in the west the former nature reserve is bordered by the course of the Seeve river.
The area is formed by a fen, in which a lake with its shore areas and a draining brook is embedded. The area is characterized by birch and alder scrub forests. On higher sites, birch-oak forest can also be found. In the marginal areas of the former nature reserve there are agricultural areas, which are mainly extensively cultivated as grassland.
