Facts and practical information
Town Hall in Ulm - a Renaissance city town hall, located in the Old Town in Ulm, near the local cathedral.
After significant war damage, the object was restored to the original appearance from 1540. The facade is decorated with frescoes of the local artist Martin Schaffner, with a very extensive color palette. They imagine, among others Allegories of virtues and human vices. Battle, commercial and river scenes dominate on the southern wall.
Between the windows are the statues of electors, from the 19th century, whose author was Master Hartmann.
The most impressive is the eastern facade with the statues of Charlemagne, Czech, Hungarian kings and squire. The whole is complemented by an astronomical clock from 1520.
Inside the town hall there are souvenirs - a copy of the flying machine, used in 1811 by Albrecht Berblinger, who made an unsuccessful attempt to fly over the Danube, and in time became a city hero. There is also a Bavarian restaurant in the building.
In 1944, the funeral of Marshal Erwin Rommel, who committed suicide after a failed assassination at Hitler, took place at the town hall.
