Schwarze Berge Wildlife Park, Rosengarten
Facts and practical information
Schwarze Berge Wildlife Park is a wildlife park in the municipality of Rosengarten in northern Lower Saxony. Founded in 1969 and open all year round, the park is located in a wooded area in the Harburg Mountains, south of the Hamburg district of Hausbruch, near Rosengarten-Vahrendorf and covers 50 hectares.
In spacious, near-natural enclosures, around a hundred animal species with about a thousand animals are shown; among others, bison, European wolves, lynx and elk. Since 2009, the park has also been home to European brown bears. Free-ranging pygmy goats, pot-bellied pigs and fallow deer live in petting enclosures. In January 2022 a Baroque donkey was born - there are only about 320 animals of this breed in the world.
From the 45-meter-high Elbe lookout tower on the grounds, you can see the Elbe, Blankenese, Cranz, the entire port of Hamburg and the Hamburg-Lohbrügge telecommunications tower when visibility is good.
Guided tours are held regularly in the park. In addition, the Natur-Erlebnis-Zentrum im Wildpark Schwarze Berge e. V. offers various theme days during the school vacations.
The park has about 140 employees.
