The parish church of St. Blasius in Balve has been dedicated to St. Blasius of Sebaste and the Blessed Virgin Mary since the 13th century. In 1430, Balve was granted city rights by Elector Dietrich II of Cologne. The Balve parish church was located outside the city fortifications and was originally part of the "Oberhof".
In the possession of the parish is a reliquary with relics of St. Blasius and a folding altar with relics of Benedict of Nursia. Balve belongs to the archdiocese of Paderborn.
The Bauverein St. Blasius is responsible for the maintenance of the church.
