Sankt Fidelis, Regensburg
Facts and practical information
The monastery of Sankt Fidelis is a former Capuchin monastery in Regensburg, Uhlandstraße 10. Its preserved buildings are listed as historical monuments.
After the old Regensburg Capuchin monastery at Ostengasse 31 was abolished in the course of secularization in 1810, a new Capuchin monastery was not founded in Regensburg until 1916. The buildings and the attached church were designed by the architect Heinrich Hauberrisser in the New Baroque style and completed in 1921. Attached to the monastery was a boys' seminary, which was closed in 1972 due to lack of demand. The building was given to the neighboring Goethe Gymnasium for use. The residential wing was converted into a student dormitory after the last monks moved out in 1994.
In 1976/1977 a comprehensive renovation of the church took place. In 1991 the convent was abolished and the monastery closed. The parish of Herz Marien took over the church of St. Fidelis as a filial church.
