Neuer Jüdischer Friedhof, Mainz
Facts and practical information
The Mainz Jewish Cemetery was occupied since January 2, 1881.
In 1878, the Jewish religious community accepted a corresponding offer from the city and acquired the land needed for its own cemetery on Untere Zahlbacher Straße and Xaveriusweg, directly next to the main cemetery, since there was no more room for new graves on the Jewish sand that had been used until then.
The Jewish cemetery and the mourning hall are today designated as cultural monuments and combined in the monument zone "Jewish Cemetery", see: List of cultural monuments in Mainz-Oberstadt.
