The Church of the Holy Cross is a Catholic church in the upper town of Mainz. The modern circular church building was planned by the city's senior building official Richard Jörg and with the participation of architect Bernhard Schmitz, and consecrated in 1954 after two years of construction. The Holy Cross Church is a characteristic example of modern church building of the 1950s and was the first central building of the 20th century in the Catholic sector in Germany, which consistently implemented the idea of a central church.
