Facts and practical information
The Basilica of Saint Aegidius is a three-nave Romanesque church building in Mittelheim in the Rheingau region of Hesse. Dedicated to Saint Aegidius, the church dates from the early 12th century, but was built partly on the foundations of a 10th-century chapel, making it the oldest church in the Rheingau. Today, St. Aegidius is a filial church of the parish of St. Peter and Paul Rheingau, a new type of parish. Since 2015, St. Peter and Paul in Eltville has also been the parish church of Mittelheim.
