Burg Hengebach, Heimbach
Facts and practical information
Hengebach Castle is located in Heimbach, a town in the northern Eifel, above the Rur River in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The hilltop castle is an oval ring castle complex of the 12th to 14th century built on a ridge rising freely from the Rur valley 216 m above sea level. The core of the complex is formed by the western courtyard of the 12th to 13th century with the keep/palace combination. The eastern part of the castle complex belongs to the extension of the 14th century. This includes the front courtyard of the castle, the garden complex and the kennel. The residential buildings erected on the south side above the Rur valley, which were also set up for defensive purposes, also date from this construction phase.
