Karlstor, Munich

Karlstor, a historical gateway to the heart of Munich, stands as a testament to the city's medieval past. This landmark is one of the three remaining gates from the original medieval fortifications that once encircled Munich, the other two being Sendlinger Tor and Isartor. Karlstor marks the western boundary of the old city and serves as a grand entrance to the pedestrian zone leading to Marienplatz, Munich's central square.

The structure, which dates back to the 14th century, was part of a larger fortification system designed to protect the then-emerging city. Throughout the years, Karlstor has undergone various restorations and reconstructions, especially after significant damage during World War II.
