Braunsmühle, Düsseldorf
Facts and practical information
The BraunsMühle is a Dutch-style windmill built in 1756 and completely restored between 2001 and 2005 in the town of Kaarst in the Büttgen district.
At the present site of the BraunsMühle, there were several wooden mills before, but they were always destroyed by fires. Unlike these mills, the BraunsMühle is built of stone; 161,608 field firebricks, 9,000 pounds of iron, and 680 feet of oak were used in its construction. The mill had approximately 80 m2 of sail area.
The mill is maintained by a non-profit support association, which allows tours of the mill on Sunday afternoons during the summer months. In addition, the German Mill Day and the Open Monument Day are celebrated.
