Mary's Church, Wittstock
Facts and practical information
The Protestant City Parish Church of St. Mary and St. Martin in Wittstock/Dosse is a three-nave hall church of the brick Gothic style. It attained its greatest importance in the period from 1271 to 1548, when the bishops of Havelberg preferred the town of Wittstock with the Old Bishop's Castle as their residence and episcopal seat. The church was originally consecrated only to St. Martin and only in 1453, with the spread of the cult of Mary, was subordinated to the patrocinium of Mary.
The congregation belongs to the church district of Wittstock-Ruppin in the Potsdam parish of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz.
