Villa Schwalbenhof, Gärtringen

Villa Schwalbenhof is a building in Gärtringen. Today, the house is used by the municipality as a cultural and event center. It also houses a memorial to the writer, journalist and literary critic Friedrich Sieburg.
In 1957, the Villa Schwalbenhof was built by architect Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot on behalf of factory owner Erich Kiefer. Friedrich Sieburg, who was a regular guest of the house, married Erich Kiefer's widow Alwine after his death, so that the villa became Sieburg's last residence in 1963. Sieburg died in 1964.
Since 1982, the villa, which had been acquired four years earlier by the municipality of Gärtringen, has served as a cabaret stage. It is a venue for cabaret, music, literature, theater and children's theater. A comprehensive renovation in accordance with the preservation order and simultaneous conversion into a cultural and event center took place between 2012 and 2013, since when it has also housed club and seminar rooms. Since then, it has also been possible to rent rooms for private parties and corporate events as well as to hold wedding ceremonies. The ceremonial reopening with an open day took place on September 15, 2013.
On the occasion of Sieburg's hundredth birthday, the municipality of Gärtringen opened a memorial to Friedrich Sieburg in the tower room of the villa on May 18, 1993. In connection with the comprehensive renovation of the Villa Schwalbenhof in 2012/2013, the exhibition was redesigned. It is now located in the Great Hall and can be visited only by prior arrangement with the municipal administration.
