St. Laurentius, Kenzingen
Facts and practical information
St. Laurentius is the Roman Catholic parish church of Kenzingen, the namesake district of the town of Kenzingen im Breisgau, which was enlarged by incorporations in 1971 and 1974. Together with St. Sebastian in Bombach, St. Andreas in Hecklingen and St. Barbara in Nordweil, three other districts of Kenzingen, the parish forms the pastoral unit Kenzingen of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. The article by Franz Xaver Kraus in the Kunstdenkmälern des Grossherzogthums Baden, 1904, and more recent works by the teacher Stefan Rieder, who comes from Kenzingen, provide basic information on the history and shape of the church. The artistically formative parts date from the Gothic and Baroque periods. In addition, St. Laurentius is art-historically significant because of some - attributed - early works by Johann Christian Wentzinger, created around 1734 after his return from Rome and soon after the baptismal font of the church of the monastery of St. Peter on the Black Forest, which was secured for him.
