Herrenhaus, Oberhausen
Facts and practical information
Vondern Castle stands in the Vonderort district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Oberhausen. It was a fief of the counts and dukes of Cleves and was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century. Today owned by the city of Oberhausen, since 1982 the Förderkreis Burg Vondern e. V. has been taking care of the preservation of the historic buildings, which were listed in 1987.
The name of the complex comes from the Middle High German expression "vonder", which describes a narrow footbridge over a watercourse.
